In what should have been our 5 teams triumphant charge to the Final, things didnt go exactly to plan.
The Peewees travelled to Newcastle after a close game the week before a game in fact we should have won but a goal was dissallowed. This week we let them get away to an early start & things didnt look good but 2 quick goals put us back in the hunt. Suddenly Northstars have a shot it hits the cross bar & bounces out, play on we think, but the ref in his wisdom & obviously great long distance vision awards the goal from his vantage point of halfway.Even the Newcastle fans were shocked but clapped timidly for the goal. Back to the face off still shell shocked & arguing & the Northstars score again.Things didnt get any better but out brave Peewees never gave up.
The traffic decided to go against us as well, & we were caught in a major traffic jam on the F6 while on route to watch our Bantams v The Bears.
As we walk into the rink the atmosphere is amazing, the crowd resembles that of AIHL game even better. I count the heads 217 people at our rink to watch the finals, the place was alive.
Missed the first 5 minutes but no goals, The Bears were really putting it to us,Our defence stepped up to the mark & never let up. 2 quick goals by our Captain saw us race to a handy lead, but the Bears came back & suddenly it was 2 all end of the second period.
Third period & we continue to defend, our defence turns to attack & two goals see us secure a berth in the grand final v Blacktown.
Titans up next v Eagles a thrilling game with the pace full on, the boys both old & young are on fire, the blend of youth & experience has it happening. End of third period sees us with a 3 all draw. 5 minutes each way doesnt go our way & the shot of the season just beats our mighty goalie.
Cardinals v The Penguins in the next home game & we definetly showed them who was in charge as the boys convincingly put it to them 8/4.
Over at Canterbury our Arch Angels finish second to the Ice Cubes.
A frustrating day for most with our hopes dashed in many divisions. BUT remember this, no other club has put it to the established clubs like we have.
Defeated yes, in a few games but not beaten. Hold your heads up SAINTS I was proud to be called a SAINT never for a second in any game did I see anyone give in before the final whistle.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL
GOOD LUCK TO THE BANTAMS
HERE COMES SUMMER COMP
