What The Preso saw Sunday 18th July
First game Sunday morning at home saw our Peewees V The Gladiators. A slow start as they asked for some time since their goalie was running late.
He arrived & it wasn’t long before we put him to the test, by the end of the first period he wished he was still in transit.
Our Peewees showing their superiority 5 goals to nothing. The second period was scoreless as both teams had plenty of shots but the two goalies were tested & found worthy of the challenge. A second period shut out for both keepers.
Third period was a different story with both sides showing some brilliance but our defence held strong as our goal was kept in tact. Peewees showed excellent passing in patches, with possession being in our favour just about all game, but in the end it was their defence ultimately that sealed their victory. Final score 9/0.
Atoms were next to carve up the ice against the Rhinos from the Central Coast with a no holding back attitude being displayed from the face off. Again our defence was the saviour with another near perfect record. Our team work seems to shine in defence but falls apart in attack as we leave it up to the same few to score.
What I was impressed with was our new & younger Atoms now earing their keep as it were. I used to refer to them as kids , now I see them as Hockey players, well done.
Two victories in a row for two SAINTS teams. One more to go.
Bantams up next , ready for action against The Eagles. We have had some close games with Canterbury before & today looked to be another, with one player out injured & our two A’s away. Coaches asked for everyone to step up & take them on from the start.
The game was close with both goalies earning their keep , saving “lots of shots”, but then it was SAINTS first to score & with some of the best defence ALL morning as we scored again this time short handed. That was just what we needed as the game was a close tussle for the full 45 minutes, with some , if not all of our best players, being sent off, at one time or another, so the penalty kill line was used in different formats all game.
Bantams finishing 4/1 .Three wins out of three games with this morning's effort defensive based.Whatever the coaches parents & players are doing seems to be working, so long as the players are having fun is the main concern.
A special mention, congrats to our ATOMS, undefeated in last weeks, Atom’s Only tournament, with SAINTS reigning supreme & bringing home the Trophy.
A note of concern is some of the conversations happening around the ice by parents on the sidelines, & some senior players, just looking for trouble, in any shape or form. Taking overheard conversations from third hand unreliable sources as gospel & running a wild story based on that & that alone. For some THE SKY IS FALLING, & BREWING A STORM IN THEIR TEACUP.
From what I hear most of it is unsubstantiated useless gossip or just wild rumours & inuendos. Stretched & blown away, so far from the truth, that it now doesn’t resemble the original story in any way shape or form.
Lets not drop to their level.
RELAX STRESS LESS & ENJOY YOUR TIME ON THE ICE PLAYING AND/OR WATCHING.
